Does cryolipolysis work?

If you’ve ever wondered about targeting fat pockets on your body, cryolipolysis is a great choice of treatment. It’s safe, powerful and yields fantastic results – and it’s available right here at our Pinner & Harrow clinic. Find out what it is, how it works and why it’s so effective in today’s blog post, brought to you by our Pinner & Harrow clinic experts.

So, what’s cryolipolysis all about?

It’s a treatment that targets and destroys fat cells. It also goes by the name ‘fat freezing’ since it works its magic through cooling technology.

Science shows that fat cells are more susceptible to cold temperatures than other kinds of cells, and when targeted with this cooling treatment, the membrane (surrounding skin) is ruptured, and the cell is then absorbed or drained out of the body through the lymphatic system.

Does the treatment hurt?

No, most people don’t find it painful. However, some experience a tugging sensation and, of course, a cold feeling. Tenderness and nerve pain can occur after the treatment, but this usually passes quickly.

Where can I have cryolipolysis?

Most areas, such as the legs, thighs, bum, tum and back, can be treated. It can even be used on areas of the face, like the chin and jawline.

How successful is cryolipolysis?

The treatment destroys the targeted fat cells. However, this doesn’t mean new cells can’t or won’t form in that area. And several treatments may be needed to achieve your desired results.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Most men and women can undergo the procedure. However, it’s not a substitute for weight loss and it’s not advised for pregnant people, breastfeeding, anaemia, or obese. It may also not be recommended for those with rashes, nerve problems and varicose veins.

What alternatives can I try?

Surgery is generally the only alternative to cryolipolysis. This could involve liposuction (which ‘sucks out’ the fat) or a tummy tuck (which can also remove excess skin). Both have a much longer recovery time and greater risks associated.
